WHAT DID YOU LEARN THIS YEAR?
For me, 2018 was a ‘Year of Deep Healing’ and I learned A LOT this year about true happiness and wellness.
As you may know, I’ve struggled most of my life with work-life balance issues.
Before this year, I spent 25 years working as a High Tech Marketing Executive in Silicon Valley and then went on to write several books: Happy Habits: Energize Your Career and Life in 4 Minutes a Day and InspiredWork: Create Work You Love in 8 Weeks.
In 2018, all of those years of chronic stress, work-life imbalance, emotional eating, sedentary lifestyle and over-active mental activity had finally caught up with me and taken their toll on my health.
And my medical reports looked pretty grim.
Specifically, my medical lab reports showed I had prediabetes, insulin resistance, Candida, gut and hormone imbalances and systemic inflammation, which I was told could lead to some major diseases like heart attacks and strokes, if left unchecked.
Clearly my body was screaming for me to pay attention and nourish it, too.
How Did I Respond to My Health Wake-Up Call?
When I received my abnormal lab reports, I realized that I needed to create a more holistic wellness plan for myself that would nourish not just my mind, but my body and soul as well.
As a result, I did A LOT of research and experimented with different diets, recipes, epigenetic (lifestyle trumps genes) research, exercise routines, supplement trials, and lifestyle experimentation. Plus, I consulted several doctors including functional medicine doctors and completed several lab tests.
It’s now been 21 months since my health wake-up call started. It didn’t come together easily at first.
But with perseverance, my happiness and wellness plan is working beautifully now.
How do I KNOW my happiness and wellness plan is working?
I am happier and feel better than ever.
My new lab tests showed that I no longer have prediabetes, insulin resistance, Candida or systemic inflammation. Plus, my cholesterol and gut imbalances are much improved.
Although I wasn’t trying to lose weight, I lost 16 pounds and 2 inches off my waist. Originally, I was 108 pounds and I am now a healthy and fit 92 pounds.
To my surprise, I realized that my ideal weight – remember I am only 4’ 10” tall – is really 92 pounds and not 104 pounds like I thought it was all my life. Who knew?!?
People say I look better than ever.
My husband said, “You look better than when we got married.”
A friend and professional Fitness trainer, who I only see every few months said, “You look like the picture of health.”
My dental office receptionist said, “You look a lot younger than you did 6 months ago. What are you doing?”
And if looking better isn’t enough, I FEEL better, too. Major Breakthrough!
So, when I look back at 2018, I remember it was a REALLY rough year.
But, the year was also oh so fulfilling….
With perspective, I can now say 2018 has definitely been a ‘Year of Deep Healing’ for me.
I’ve learned so much about happiness and wellness and myself along the way.
That’s why I created Heart Centered Living this year so I can share what I learned and help other busy professionals achieve more work-life balance, happiness and wellness.
