Conciousness and Heart Centered Living

(This is a summary of Myra's thoughts that she shared with the Facilitators in her Energy Practicum at Heart Center following the Healing Touch Annual Conference.)

By Myra Tovey

In September, I attended a Healing Touch International Conference in Hilton Head, South Carolina.  The theme of that conference was on "Conciousness" and I would like to share a summary of what was shared and my reflections.  Dr. Valerie Hunt, who presented at the conference, has worked with energy field reserach since 1970.  Many of you have seen the video she put together showing energy fields.  This is what Dr. Valerie Hunt shared,  "when centered the Healers field induces the client because their field is full, clear and filled with love."  This is another way of saying that the practioner should be centered at the heart in order to be most effective. That is the reason I teach, everyone to center at the Heart and set the intention for the client before working with them energetically.

The Institute of Heart Math (www.heartmath.org) shows a picture of the energy field of the Heart Chakra.  I keep that picture in front of me, to remind me how expansive the heart center is.  Focusing on the attribute of love and in the Heart bring us into present time and balance instantly.  I often ask myself, "why do so many people live in their lower centers when so much joy, ease and peace can be found by living in the heart center?" I have found this to be true over the course of the 27 years that I have been studying heart energy.  It has become a way of life for me at this time.  Being conscious is being aware to shift one's focus to the Heart Center when stressed or angry.

Conciousness is hard work.  Dr. Valerie Hunt says to "remember we are an energy field first.  We are a mind (not brain) controlled by emotions.  Emotions are our power source."  Being conscious, is being aware.  Awareness, the first step to Heart Centered Living.  Awareness of thoughts, feelings and what your primary focus each day.  I look at everything in my life using the steps of Heart Centered Living.  This give me clarity.

Here are the steps to Heart Centered Living, that I teach in my program  at the Heart Center.  These steps have been developed by me over time and through my experience using a heart focus. 1. Awareness that one needs to change

If one is living a very stressful life, and has no awareness that change is      needed, there is no reason to change. When I was working full time as a Supervisor of School nurses, had four children at home, and was experiencing marriage difficulties, I began having anxiety attacks.

I never knew when an attack would start and was always frightened by them. Through my anxiety attacks, I became aware that change was needed.

2. Awareness to Change

Often, people who are in high stress situations don’t realize that their life can be different.  They may feel that they must forever live with the difficulties that life has presented to them.  When I began suffering anxiety attacks, I had been lucky enough to have attended a P.E.T. (Parent Effectiveness Training) workshop.  I learned there, that I might not be able to change all of my circumstances within my family, but that I could change my perception of the problems.  Through that P.E.T. workshop I had an awareness that my life could change.

3.  Desire to change

Once I began experiencing anxiety attacks and became aware that change  could happen, I knew that I didn’t want to keep on living in the way that I  was!
I desired to change.

4. Choice

Once one desires to change, one becomes aware of the choices that are made daily. Do your choices give you energy or take energy away?  We all know people who have a negative attitude, or always seem to be a victim.  These people, I call them energy zappers, seem to take our energy.  I usually choose to be around people who give me energy.  These people are not victims; even when they experience challenges, they tend to see the gift in it.

5. Daily Centering

Another important choice for me is to center daily.  I learned a long time ago that it’s best for me if I take quiet time every morning. Some days this is a difficult choice!  Occasionally I’ll choose to sleep longer but those days never seem to flow well.

If you need help getting started on a path of daily centering you might want to consider obtaining either of the two CD's offered by me on the Products page of this website.  In them, I guide you through many of the processes that I use on a daily basis.  I also offer mentoring, energy balancing sessions and my Heart Centered Living Workshop for individuals eager to begin living in this discipline.

I have been reflecting since the conference on the discipline of "Consciousness" and Heart Centered Living.  I am frequently struck by how living in a Heart Centered Way affects the individual and carries the power to change lives. This Heart Energy then goes out to the individual's family and group, then to the community, then to the nation and finally globally.  I truly believe that living in a Heart Centered Way is an important contribution that we can make to positively affect our world.

have a heart centered year,
